The Council’s year runs from May. Our Chairman updates the Full Council about his recent activities.
25 May 2023
The Chairman reported that, as usual he had made himself available to Members who wanted to discuss any council matters.
He had also liaised and met with the Clerk and Assistant Clerk in order to facilitate the smooth running of the Community Council.
Unfortunately, due to contracting COVID, he was unable to attend Council events on 29 and 30 April 2023. The Chairman thank Cllrs Cook, Charles, Lloyd Jones, Silver and Patel for supporting our presence at the RMA fete and at the Civic Service. He also thanked former Cllrs Mike Diment and Chris St Ledger for managing our bird box building experience. Particular thanks were given to the Vice Chair Councillor Vina Patel who willingly and ably deputised by delivering the Council’s address at the Civic Reception.
The Chairman also update Members on the recent burglary at the Old Church Rooms. He described some of the losses and damage and praised Council staff for ensuring that the incident was managed effectively. He also referred to advice given by the Council’s insurers. The security of the premises would be reviewed by the Old Church Rooms Management Board. Members agreed not pursue an insurance claim in view of the limited amount of financial loss.

The Chairman reported that a police representative was unable to attend the meeting, but a report provided by Richard Davies, Police Community Support Officer, would be circulated.
The Chairman reported that, as usual, he had made himself available to Members who wanted to discuss any council matters. He had also liaised and met with the Clerk and Assistant Clerk to facilitate the smooth running of the Community Council. An article he had submitted to “The Chain” was published in June – the subject being our vacancies and co option process.
In conjunction with other Members, he had attended a meeting of the Publicity and Communications Committee and the Finance Committee.
In conjunction with other Members, he had attended a meeting at Mound Field to examine and discuss the new access bridge over the railway and written to former Members, Mike Diment & Chris St. Ledger to thank them on our behalf for facilitating the making of bird boxes on behalf of the Council at the May fete.

The Chairman reported that since the last meeting he had undertaken the following on behalf of the Council: –
Met with the Clerk a number of times to discuss and help progress council matters.
Met with the Clerk to examine and make suggestions on the new Standing Orders for councils as recommended by One Voice Wales.
Met/spoke with cllrs who requested a conversation.
Attended a Finance Committee meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
Attended a Publicity Committee meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
Attended an Innovative Practice Conference at Builth Wells, organised by One Voice Wales, together with the Clerk. (The Chairman outlined issues discussed.)
Attended an Old Church Rooms Management Committee meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
Submitted on article for the next Radyr Chain magazine.

The Chairman reported that since the last meeting he had undertaken the following on behalf of the Council:
- Met with the Clerk a number of times to discuss and help progress council matters.
- Met/spoke with cllrs who requested a conversation.
- Attended a “Replacement LDP” briefing session.
- Wrote a letter expressing our disappointment over the lack of assistance forthcoming from CCC officers helping us with a Station Road feasibility study.
- Attended a co-option meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
- Attended an Old Church Rooms Management Committee meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
- Met with Simon Gilbert (CCC), along with the Clerk, to express both our opposition to the proposed candidate sites listed in the revised LDP and discuss enhancing Station Rd.

The Chairman reported that since the last meeting he had undertaken the following on behalf of the Council:
- Met with the Clerk a number of times to discuss and help progress council matters.
- Met/spoke with cllrs who requested a conversation, though this has proved a little more difficult this month due to my being on holiday for part of September.
- Took part in a new councillor induction session, with the Clerk.
- Attended a meeting with regard to this November’s Remembrance event.
- Undertook the clerk’s Performance Management, in conjunction with Cllr Charles.
- Wrote a reply to a constituent worried about a dangerous dog. (The Chairman elaborated on the circumstances.)
- Wrote a reply to Reverend Yemm regarding his letter concerning the Good Neighbours Scheme.
- Gave advice to a local A-level Geography student who is undertaking a study on the increased building on Llantrisant Road. (The Chairman elaborated on the circumstances.)
- Wrote our response to the RLDP, with assistance from cllrs Huw Jones & Helen Jones.

The Chairman reported that since the last meeting he had undertaken the following on behalf of the Council:
- Met with the Clerk a number of times to discuss and help progress council matters.
- Met/spoke with cllrs who requested a conversation.
- Attended two OCR Management Board meetings, in conjunction with other cllrs.
- On behalf of the Council, I wrote to Reverend Yemm congratulating him on his new post at Llandaff Cathedral.
- On behalf of the Council, I wrote to Cllr De’Ath (Cabinet Member for transport, CCC) expressing our concern about the new “safe” walking route to Gwaelod-y-Garth primary school.
- On behalf of the Council, I wrote to “The South Wales Echo” and “The Western Mail” reiterating our support for establishing/enhancing services at Plasdwr and Station Road.
- In conjunction with the Clerk, I communicated with residents of Ty Mynydd Close/Min-y-Coed and PEDW reiterating our opposition to the installation of a 5G mast on land at Heol Isaf adjacent to Ty Mynydd Close Radyr Cardiff.
- Attended a Publicity & Communications Committee meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
- Attended a Finance Committee meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
- Attended a co-option meeting with a prospective Cllr together with the Clerk and the Vice Chair.
- Represented the Council at the local Remembrance Service, and the subsequent gathering at the Tennis Club.
- Written and submitted our article to be published in “The Chain.”
