Personal Details

Helen, Lady Lloyd Jones usually known as Councillor Helen Lloyd Jones is passionately proud to be Welsh and was brought up in the Welsh Marchers in a small village next to Hay on Wye.

Her husband, Sir Richard Lloyd Jones KCB is her Consort for her year in office.  He is a retired Welsh Civil Servant who served as Permanent Secretary of the Welsh Office 1985-1993.

Career

Helen is a Chartered Engineer; her first job was at Reactor Equipment Limited in Whetsone in Leicestershire. With the arrival of her sons, she moved into teaching and became Head of Computing at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera and the school’s ICT Co-ordinator.

Political

Helen was elected to Cardiff Council in 2022 representing the Radyr and Morganstown ward.  She sits on both the Economy & Culture and Environment Scrutiny Committees.

Interests

She has been Chair of Ramblers Cymru and a Council Member of the Countryside Council for Wales and Vice-Chair of Brecon Beacons LAF.  She has walked in the Himalayas and the Silk Routes in Spain.  Her experience walking part of the Camino of Santiago de Compostela drew her into a project which she Chairs, re-creating the Penrhys Pilgrimage from Llandaff Cathedral to the Statue of Our Lady in Penrhys.

Now usually the slowest runner on the field, she has run in events in Australia and the USA including the New York marathon and is plugging away at the challenge set to her by her grandsons of a thousand Parkruns by her hundredth birthday.
